Project Description

Kalaroma Playground and Plaza Park Renovation

Client: District of Columbia Department of General Services

Overview:The Kalorama Park Project scope was executed in two phases. In Phase 1 the work consisted of the complete excavation, soil remediation, and landscaping renovation to the lower end of the park. The park is located near the lowest elevation of the adjacent neighborhood. Consequently, during storms water overwhelms the main storm drain in the park. As a result, a new drainage system and new soil was installed to improve the drainage from storm waters. A new slot trench drainage system was installed under the concrete sidewalk to control the water flow and permeable soil. New landscaping was also provided to more the visual appeal of the park.

In Phase 2 the work consisted of the complete demolition of existing playground equipment, its underground foundations as well as the existing safety surfacing, to install new playground equipment, necessary re-grading/drainage and improvements to the plaza area of the park

The total of CBE participation for the Kalorama Park project was 93.9% for Phase 1 and 80.4% for Phase 2.
